In 2005, The Public Utility of Texas (PUC) funded an education and training project to identify and train people with speech disabilities to use the telephone to place calls through Relay Texas, our statewide telephone relay service and to increase awareness and use of Speech-to-Speech, a feature of Relay Texas. This is a public service to raise awareness about Speech-to-Speech Relay Services and to increase use of the service by those with speech disabilities. Although the original program no longer exists, the educational materials developed are being made available through this website to continue to provide instructors of individuals with speech disabilities, teaching skills needed for telephone use via Speech to Speech (STS), a feature of Relay Texas.
Speak Up Texas training materials are available on CD and on the Speak Up Texas Web site, www.speakuptexas.com. All Speak Up Texas training materials are free and may be reproduced for educational purposes.
Speak Up Texas is not a medical service or educational program for purposes of compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and therefore, it is not intended to supplant such a medical service or educational program. The PUC is not an educational service agency as that term is defined in the IDEA.
Use the Speech-to-Speech Relay and experience the freedom.
